Portable milling head control

This is to document a small control panel we built for a portable metal milling head X-Y axis control. The machine is owned by a local machine shop and is used to resurface steel platens in the paper, printing, and milling industries, where the project is so large, it warrants bringing the milling machine to the project.

The customer had been using the milling head with very old controls, and mostly resorted to running it manually for the feed. They wanted variable speed drives to control the X and Y axis feed screws for the milling head.

We put together a small panel with two variable speed drives, and switches and speed potentiometers for each drive, to run the drives in forward, reverse, and vary the speed. We also added side handles to the panel for ease of handling.
