We have finished a small automated machine system upgrade. The machine was roughly 20 years old, and was built in-house by the plant maintenance shop. The control panel left much to be desired, and after daily use for 20 years, was not functioning as needed. The PLC controller had a couple of burned out relays, and the wiring in the control panel was a tangled mess. We quoted the upgrade to include a new PLC from Telemecanique (SquareD). We wrote a program from scratch and removed a lot of unused wiring. The control panel is still showing it’s age, but is in much better shape and the machine functions as needed.
